In the summer of 1945 the United States had a firm grasp of the Pacific Theater. Japans once mighty fleet was all but shattered and unable to support any garrisoned island against an U.S. attack. With Iwo Jima taken earlier in the year the U.S. had an island to land damaged bombers that were hitting the mainland island. To launch an invasion of the main island of Japan the U.S. would need a bigger stepping stone to launch from; Okinawa was the answer.
This is a 2 player game set on the island of Okinawa and surrounding waters that recreates the battle between U.S. and Japanese forces during World War 2. The basic rules follow the concepts laid out in Axis & Allies, but combat resolution has been modified to a D12 system. The game can be played to 10 turns or 20 depending on the length of time desired; and victory is determined by the number of airbases held or carriers destroyed. The map is divided into areas that are controlled by the players' armies represented by the plastic Axis & Allies pieces.
The rules incorporate a number of new features to the Axis & Allies style of play including terrain effects, country specific units, and all new unit types including flame tanks and LCMs.
